| Shearers have played a vital role in forming Australian heritage and culture. Shear Outback (The Australian Shearer's Hall of Fame) opened in 2002 and does the same for shearers as the Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach does for the stockman, though it is newer and has not yet expanded to the same extent as the latter. The historic Murray Downs woolshed has been relocated to this site, and is where the live shearing demonstrations take place three times daily. These demonstrations are much more than a simple demonstration of taking the the wool off the sheep's back, and the presenter gives a fascinating insight into the life and work of a shearer, both historically and in the present day. The main hall contains an extensive display of shearing handpieces from the very first experimental mechanical shears, a gallery of "gun shearers", and a comprehensive explanation and display of the woo....
