*General comments*
	Outback character with more than its share of characters! Town with pretty much a full range of facilities. It’s not just about opal mining and ogling at opals in the many gem galleries: you can go on fossicking tours and try your hand at finding opal yourself on the surface (called ‘noodling’), go down a mine filled with 3D carvings, bas reliefs and murals (“Chambers of the Black Hand” mine), visit Australia’s best collection of historic oil lamps in a house made of bottles and drink cans (The Black Queen, aka “The Bottle House”), and go for a very hot bath in the artesian baths.
