Land Rover Club of the Australian Capital Territory Incorporated

  • LRC was established in 1969 as a non-profit, social and recreational club for residents of the ACT and surrounding areas with a common interest in four-wheel drive vehicles. The Club encourages and accepts all makes of four-wheel drive with no restriction, but has no interest in other vehicles such as trail bikes and dune buggies. The membership comprises individuals and family groups of a wide age range and with widely differing backgrounds and interests.
  • The Club is sensitive to conservation and the protection of the environment.  It is appreciative of its location and of the privilege of having access to the country surrounding Canberra.  The Club takes active steps to preserve these facilities.
  • The principal activity of the Club is the conduct of one, two or three day trips to areas of interest within about a 200 kilometre radius of Canberra.  In addition to these trips the Club often organises longer trips each year to areas such as Central Australia and Cape York.
  • The Club's activities are almost entirely conducted over existing roads, tracks and fire trails.  Trips are reconnoitred and planned to ensure sound organisation, to avoid potentially destructive or dangerous situations and to select a route, and alternatives, to suit prevailing weather conditions.  The trips are conducted in accordance with an informal, effective code of behaviour to ensure maximum enjoyment, minimum inconvenience to others, the safety of members and minimum damage to the country through which the vehicles pass.
  • Local trips often include built-in or associated activities such as: map reading and navigation; vehicle maintenance; instruction in four-wheel driving skills; and elementary bushcraft and survival.
  • Many members of the Club possess skills, knowledge and equipment that have practical applications in a number of community services and that are offered to the appropriate organisations such as Emergency Services, Police Search and Rescue and local Bushfire Brigades. The club is also a key organiser of the 4WD Spectacular and Camping Show, held in Queanbeyan. The spectacular is held in the even numbered years during February. During show years information about the show can be found at 4WD Spectacular and Camping Show
