Map layers.
|
|
|
An index of the map
information layers that are available is on the left of the map. Only those
CGC features checked in this index will appear on the map scene. If the
scene you are on is cluttered and you don’t want all of the base map
layers or CGC site categories to show, you can switch them off by clicking
on the tickbox beside the layer name.

Resolving
overlapping labels
|
|
|
Where sites are so close
together that their names overlap, you can resolve this in two different ways:
[1] Using Internet Explorer (IE), zoom to further enlarge the map using
Ctrl+Click; [2] if the overlapping sites are of different types (e.g. a
campground and a rest area), you can switch off the type you are not
interested in by clicking on the tickbox for that type of site to the right
of the map, removing this layer from view. Re-selecting the tick box will return the layer to view.

Finding the names
of mapped features
|
|
|
If you hover the cursor over
a labelled or unlabelled dot when viewing map levels 2, 3 or 4, the name of
that feature will show in the green “name bar” above the map in
IE. In Firefox the name will appear in an adjacent textbox. This can be a
useful short-cut if you are searching for a site in level 2 or 3 and you
don’t know its precise location. At level 4 (i.e. most detailed),
names of coloured areas and some linear features will also show in the same
manner you hover the cursor over them (including national parks, state
forests, lakes and major rivers).

Getting to the
site details
|
|
|
When you have found an
interesting site, click on it to bring up the detailed information. You can
click on several sites and tile them so you can move easily between them
for comparison etc. The map scene stays active underneath.
