4WD trek  difficulty gradings

To assist in assessing whether the trek is suitable for you and your 4WD vehicle, and what gear you should take (e.g. tent or camper trailer), the treks and some access routes into camp sites and other features are given a difficulty rating: The gradings assume good weather conditions. Wet/Snowy/Stormy conditions may require a reassessment of the grading. These gradings are for 4WDs with low range gearing and suitable clearance.

  • A Grade – Very difficult trip. Winching probably required.
  • B Grade – Moderate to difficult trip. Winching may be required.
  • C Grade – Moderate with some sections requiring caution.
  • D Grade – Relatively easy trip.
  • E Grade – Very easy, usually on sealed or formed roads.

Getting more info

Many of the site descriptions have external weblinks (blue underlined text) to websites with additional information. Make sure your browser and internet connection are active, then simply click on them to find out more about the site, or other features/attractions/services nearby. Web-links are to sites that are external to the CampGroundCorner CD, thus they may change in time. If you find a link that no longer works, please let us know - Feedback.

Contact details including phone numbers are also listed for some sites to help you in your trip planning stage, especially where site bookings are recommended or where track conditions should be checked before you decide on your route.

Document revision history

The dates of visits to each site when information was collected/revised for CGC are given at the bottom of every entry. Take these dates into account when assessing the currency of information for the site – you may choose to make further inquiries with the contacts/links provided, or with other sources, if you consider the CGC information may be getting out of date.
