Introduction

An eGroup is an efficient facility for club members to communicate with each other outside of the telephone and club General Meetings.

For all Land Rover Club members, the eGroup is a web and email based service provided at no cost by Yahoo Groups.  Group members can swap trip photos, GPS Points, share knowledge of tracks, ask if anyone is available for a recce, get advice on leading a trip or on what equipment to take.

Acceptable Use Policy

To maintain an acceptable signal to noise ratio, and make the eGroup worthwhile, discussions within the group are restricted to 4WD and club related topics.  There are plenty of other places for debates such as local politics.

Because not all club members have access to email or the Internet, this group is to be used exclusively for activities that would not usually be undertaken at a General Meeting.  Club Trips can not be arranged through the eGroup, these must be arranged via the Trip Coordinator and published accordingly in the Calendar.  However the organisation of recces is acceptable.  Further the eGroup does not replace the Club Magazine, it is to be treated purely as a communication medium for Internet enabled members.

The eGroup is restricted to club members only.  Visit the Membership pages for details on how to join the Land Rover Club of the ACT.

Joining the eGroup

Joining the eGroup is simple, all you need is an active email address.  Send an email containing your full name and Member Number, (if you know it), to lrcact-subscribe@yahoogroups.com you will then be automatically placed in a list pending subscription approval.  Note: The eGroup is only available to club members.

Once your subscription is approved, (usually 1-2 days), you will receive an email welcoming you to the LRC eGroup.

Using the eGroup

Now that your subscription is approved you can begin posting to the group.  Simply address your post with an appropriate subject and send it to lrcact@yahoogroups.com.

You should receive your post in your INBOX within the next few minutes, the subject will be prefixed with the phrase [LRC Act] for easy identification of eGroup messages and local processing by your email client.

Note:  You can only send messages to the eGroup from the address you signed up with.  If you want to use multiple addresses then you must register these addresses with Yahoo.  See below for details.

Getting the most from the eGroup

While email is an excellent medium for group communication, a hybrid of web and email will provide a better experience.

To get the most from the eGroup you will need to register for a Yahoo ID.  See below for details.

Once you have your Yahoo ID configured you can visit the LRC eGroup simply by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lrcact from your web browser.

Here you will find all the messages ever posted, folders for storage of pictures, links to other relevant sites in the bookmarks section and files uploaded for use by your fellow members.  There is also a calendar available for the scheduling and reminder of club events such as General Meetings, Show and Tell day etc.

Registering for Web Access

The eGroup Web address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lrcact but you will need a Yahoo ID before you can use the web address.  See below for further details.

If you already have a Yahoo ID visit Yahoo Groups and sign in.  If the email address you registered in the LRC eGroup is attached to your Yahoo profile you will be able browse the eGroup online. If not, then you will first need to register the email address to your profile.  Just follow the Yahoo instructions.

If you do not have a Yahoo ID, then you will need to create one at Yahoo Groups.  Remember to use the same email address that you used to subscribe via email, or you will need to add it as a supplementary address later.

Once you have your Yahoo ID configured you can visit the LRC eGroup simply by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lract from your web browser.
