The Land Rover Club of the ACT regularly assists local government in the
removal of wrecked vehicles from the ACT Parks and Forests.
To date the club has undertaken four recovery trips. During which
over 65 vehicles have been safely recovered and removed from public parks
and forests surrounding the Canberra region.
While the principle day for this activity is Clean Up Australia Day,
historically drawing the largest number of members on a wreck recovery trip,
the club often organises wreck recovery day trips during the remainder of the
year.
The primary objective of this project, is to improve safety for visitors
and reduce litter, pollution and contamination in our public parks and
forests. Secondly, to assist local government agencies with the removal
process and thus minimise costs to the tax payer.
The process usually involves meeting a Ranger at some predetermined
location who advises the group of the wreck locations on a map. Members then
remove the wrecks from the trees and bushes using various vehicle recovery
techniques. Once the vehicles are on stable ground they are dragged to a central location that can be easily
accessed by commercial contractors.
Club member Martin Grace organises and arranges the Wrecked Vehicle
Recovery Project in consultation with appropriate ACT authorities.
