Communications Policy
Overview
The Club promotes correct radio communications procedure to assist in managing convoys and assist in ensuring the safety of all members. The Club recommends that all member's vehicles should be fitted with UHF two-way radios although the Club's convoy procedures cater for vehicles not fitted with a radio. In general, the Club suggests the following:
-
UHF radios are the preferred type.
- An AM radio is considered as temporary or "stop gap" measure prior to the purchase of an UHF radio.
- Members with AM sets, who purchase UHF radios should keep both types fitted to their vehicle.
- Members who choose to use AM radios exclusively or do not have any type of radio will be accommodated by convoy procedures.
- New or prospective Club members will have priority for the use of the Club's loan UHF sets.
- Longer term members may use the radios if they are not required by a new or prospective member.
- The last vehicle in the convoy must have a radio compatible with the convoy leader.
- Basic convoy procedures that rely on visual contact between vehicles still apply to all convoy members even when in radio contact.
UHF Etiquette
As UHF CB is used in many rural towns and areas for business, emergency and farm communications, it is likely that when
traveling from area to area you will find that your working channel is being used by someone else. Please respect other users and either use the channel sparingly, in conjunction with other users, or use another channel.
Club Channels
Channel 5 is the convoy channel for AM sets.
Channel 10 is the convoy channel for UHF sets.
Channel 15 is the alternative convoy channel for UHF sets.
